Facebook has just Launched “shops” for owners of Facebook pages to start selling products from their Facebook pages. I know this has just been launched for Australian users as i am based in Australia.
This launch by facebook is going to be a big kick in the gut to online shopping providers like Volusion, Shopify, Bigcommerce and many more.
Online shopping has become a multibillion-dollar revenue stream. Online shopping retail sales are predicted to grow steadily to $370 billion in 2017, up from $231 billion in 2012.What retailer doesn’t want a piece of that growing pie?
Facebook shop vs spotify and big commerce
I just logged into my Facebook page today and got asked , if i wanted to add a shop, when i answered yes to test it out – It gave me the option of choosing Australian dollar, Canadian dollar and other currencies but weirdly enough there was no option of US dollar for me which I needed
How to set up your Facebook Online Shop
Image of start a website facebook page above
The next screen asked me to tell Facebook : describe what “start a website” sells? (above)
And the section after that tells me to add products to my shop
After you click “add products” on your facebook page – You get to add a image of your product and add prices for it . You also get to add the Name of product and a description for it.
You can read the detailed guidelines for your uploading images etc over here ( short summary below)
Requirements
- At least one image is required for each product
- Each image must be of the product itself; it can’t be a graphical representation (ex: an illustration or icon) of the product
Feature your product on facebook shop
There is also a feature this product option on this screen this allows you too feature up to 10 products. Featured products are shown on your page when people visit, and at the top of your shop section.
Automatically share your product
Turning this on will automatically post your product to your Page’s timeline. This will only happen after your product is approved.
Internet-savvy buyers are more and more determined to spend considerable time researching certain products on different websites and reading online reviews, as well as comparing prices through a website or application, in order to get the best deal possible.

I suppose this would be natural as a next step ,with facebook already holding so many millions of subscribers to their database , now they can shop in house also without having to go to google, tis almost like a parallel internet to the google domination.
I suppose this big launch will lead to many losses to the big players in this space, but will make it easy for many facebook users to start selling online with minimum fuss. You can read here => more details about the tips and guidelines for your facebook online shop
